They took the seed of an idea and planted it, and out grew Gatecon.

Gatecon is a fan convention centered on the Stargate television franchise. Most of the Gatecon conventions have been held in Vancouver, Canada.

Gatecon was conceived in 2000 by four fans of the show to provide a place for fans of the show Stargate SG-1 to meet members of the cast and crew, and to get to know their fellow fans. The original organisers met in various ways - family, asking one another for help on how to make a Stargate quiz for their site after seeing one on theirs and an interactive Stargate-themed site run by Ryan Peters under Showtime's umbrella.

Gatecon celebrated its 5th Anniversary in July 2004, which was a sell out with 700 attendees. It had around 30 guests over the 3-day event. It was also the first time Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, and Michael Shanks had a panel together at Gatecon. Gatecon 2006 was the first event held in the United Kingdom. Around 250 people attended the convention at Cheltenham's University Campus.

Since its inception, Gatecon raised money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation through a series of auction evenings. MGM and The Bridge Studios donated props and costumes. Over 7 years, Gatecon had raised and donated over $250,000 to various Canadian charities, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Proceeds from the 2008 charity auction were donated to Sea Shepherd.

The C3 disbanded in 2010 but after four years, the organisers announced in April 2015 that they were planning to bring Gatecon back. Together with Paul Brown from Legends Canada, 2016 saw the return to Vancouver with The Homecoming - a weekend with Richard Dean Anderson and 54 Special Guests in aid of Sea Shepherd.

The next event in the planning stage is Gatecon The Invasion 2018, back at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport hotel.
